What’s her cup of tea?
Eastern Sierra, CA—Mother’s Day is celebrated at different times around the world, and it’s a day to honor moms, and the mother figures in our lives. This year, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12, so you have a few more days before the big day is here.
Mother’s Day is an American notion, and Anna Jarvis (1908) started the national movement to recognize Mother’s Day. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the day to honor mothers, by raising the flag, for moms whose sons were lost in the war. Mother’s Day isn’t a federal holiday, but it’s a special day to celebrate and show appreciation.
Indulge in the Experiences
What’s your mom’s cup of tea? What does the mother figure in your life like to do? Does your mother have a hobby or passion, which you can add to the experience? Are there things your mum likes to do with the family or friends, rather than by themselves? Can you find something your mother figure really wanted, but didn’t know she wanted? Whether it’s beauty, candy, flowers, jewelry, fragrances, pictures, meals, a make-over, trips, or just a quiet evening with some nice cozy tea, and a good movie, there are many ways to bring some joy on this special day.
Shopping locally gives all of the region’s moms a chance to get and give back to the communities. Grab some unusual tea cups, a beautiful tea pot, a honey dispenser, and some local honey from shops / stores in town. Pick up some nice new dish towels, with Mule Days in mind. Or shop for a special meal, with some great barbecuing in mind. And, many of the local restaurants go out-of-their-way to treat moms to specials, on Mother’s Day, but make those reservations now.

Sharing time, sending a card or gift, eating together, spending a day or evening at a special place, or just having a quiet dinner, a cup of tea, and a movie…all of these things and more are ways to honor that special person.
