Bishop, CA—It’s hard to miss the Big Green Egg traditional kamado cooker / barbecue. The description alone, in its name, says a lot, but what these elliptical-shaped cookers can do, is a fair amount of fare, after all…it’s “The Outdoor Cooker That Does It All.”
Steve Christensen, owner of Manor True Value Hardware, Bishop, CA, had the western chef / representative of Big Green Egg, Ian Helper, on hand for the Cook Out this past weekend (August 3, 2024), and the summer afternoon event was well-received. “Doing the Cook,” Ian presented tri-tip, pizza, and sausage, along with fixings, seasonings, sauces, and these accessories and many, many more, are available at Manor True Value Hardware. Look back by the wood stove accessories / hardware area. Lump wood charcoals (no electricity or gas) of various kinds of woods, seasonings, equipment, and accessories can come along with the Big Green Egg cooker experience, and the company has a nice publication with stories and recipes.
The Big Green Egg cooker has been around since 1974, but the “kamado” cooker caught the attention of US soldiers in Japan, after World War II, according to Big Green Egg. Ed Fisher took the idea, and he began his business in Philadelphia, in 1974. Big Green Egg cookers are ceramic, which is known for its heat retention.
