“Christmas will be as long as we stand heart to heart, hand in hand”—Dr. Suess

Eastern Sierra, CA—It’s a magical time of year, when the excitement of the holiyays bring out the best in the spirit of the season. We can look forward to the upcoming festivities with the notion that while it won’t be snowy and slushy, and too cold, it doesn’t mean we can’t be merry and bold! And, while we’re all preparing for the rush of last-minute Christmas or Hanukkah shopping, keep your eyes and ears open for seeing Santa on his way….

Let the festivities begin…

For our holiyays’ season opener, we have the ever-popular Christmas Parade, in Downtown Bishop, CA, on Saturday, December 7th, beginning with the Rotary Club’s annual “Santa Mile” run/walk, down Main Street, at 3:45 PM. Then, get your seat ready for the parade, starting at 4:30 PM. This year’s theme is in honor of Pearl Harbor Day (see inside page 5 story), and the Bishop Chamber of Commerce’s “Saluting the Past, Celebrating the Future” is an all-day “Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” event. Following the parade is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the city park, and then head on over to see Santa Claus at the Eastside Guest House, and take in some of the Christmas Market goodies, too. There will be lively music, vendors, and more goodies in downtown Bishop, on Academy Street, and we can look forward to some late evening shopping, and dining experiences, as the local businesses keep the holiyays going later into the night. Remember to get to your parking spots early! US Highway 395 is going to close to Main Street traffic at 3:30 PM.

WHOOBILATION is happening at the Bishop Twin Theatre, and Who doesn’t like a great event celebrating the Dr. Suess holiday classic (written in 1957), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”? This timely movie celebration is on Friday, December 13, from 6-9 PM. PS: The Bishop Twin Theatre is 100 years old! Celebrate twice as nice!

ALL ABOARD! Catch a Holiday Express Train, ride along with Santa, elves, and Christmas carolers, at the Laws Historic Railroad Museum and Site, on Saturday, December 14, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Lots to look forward to at this event, including holiday crafts, wagon rides, and refreshments. Thanks to the many generous sponsors of this fun-filled day, and Altrusa is giving the kids free books, too. Tickets (adults and kids over 10 years old: $20 Kids 3-10 and seniors: $15 Kids under three are free) are needed for the Laws Holiday Express events.
